Frequently asked questions
No. Most of our students start from nothing. Every beginner starts with a free trial lesson, where the teacher checks the instrument suits the student, finds a starting point and suggests a lesson length. We take piano, guitar and strings students from age five, drums and brass from seven, and voice from nine. Adults are welcome on every instrument.
Individual lessons are $19 for 20 minutes, $27 for 30 minutes and $42 for 45 minutes, billed termly. Ensembles are $8 a session and free for anyone with a weekly lesson. The trial lesson costs nothing, and there is no term fee until you decide to stay.
Not for the trial, and not for the first term. We lend violins, cellos, guitars and keyboards to new students, and every practice room has a piano and a drum kit. When you are ready to buy, your teacher will help you choose.
Yes. Teachers enter students for graded practical and theory exams when they are ready, not by the calendar. The school runs mock exams and an accompanist rehearsal in the weeks before, and last year 96% of our entrants passed, most with merit or distinction.
A junior orchestra, a string group, a wind band, a brass band, three rock bands and a choir. Ensembles rehearse weekly and perform twice a term. Any student with a weekly lesson can join at no extra cost.
